Why Sea Salts
Why Unrefined Sea Salts?
They are closer to our body’s composition and so our bodies have an easier time processing them. Your body does not have to try and breakdown the foreign substances.
SEA WATER – sea salts by definition are solar evaporated sea water.
However, there are also….
Mineral Salts or also known as Jurassic Salts (Himalayan Pink) –that were originally sea water millions of years ago. When the plates shifted and mountains were created and the oceans were no longer in existence in those places. Layers of earth have then covered these salts. So technically, they are sea water, but they derive their well known mineral content not only from the original source but more so the earth surrounding them. So we do not refer to these salts as actually being “sea salts”
What is salt?
Sometimes the two terms, “salt” and “sodium” are used interchangeably, but technically this is not correct. “Salt” is sodium chloride. By weight, it is 40% sodium and 60% chloride.
Why is it important for good health?
Sodium is an essential nutrient, a mineral that the body cannot manufacture itself but which is required for life itself and good health. Because of sodium’s importance to your body, several interacting mechanisms guard against under-consumption of salt and its threat to your body’s nerves and muscles and interference with the sodium-potassium “pump” which adjusts intra- and extra-cellular pressures. If your salt intake varies widely, these mechanisms activate to assure that your body remains healthy, maintaining a relatively constant blood pressure. Chloride, too, is essential to good health. It preserves acid-base balance in the body, aids potassium absorption, supplies the essence of digestive stomach acid, and enhances the ability of the blood to carry carbon dioxide from respiring tissues to the lungs.
